About Deutsch Design in Hillsborough, NC

German Master Craftsman with 30 Years of Woodworking Experience

We prioritize high-quality workmanship to ensure every detail meets our client’s expectations.

Frank started woodworking at the age of thirteen learning from his father who is a Master Carpenter by trade in Germany. Valuable time connecting with his father always meant working in the shop together creating unique woodcraft. In high school, Frank refurbished antique furniture from the early and late 1800s for a high-end antique shop. Together with his older brother, who also followed their father’s footsteps, Frank built furniture and did custom carpentry work throughout his grade school years through the completion of his MBA at the University of Nuremberg in Germany.

Later in his career, Frank used his design expertise and craftsmanship outfitting high-end yachts and cruise vessels across Europe. He has been connected with woodworking all his life. “Crafting tangible and functional art from my own mind and with my own hands is a magical process that is immensely satisfying. Working with natural products, smelling the distinct scent of wood always brings back wonderful memories.”

Currently residing in Carrboro, North Carolina, Frank founded DEUTSCH DESIGN, building custom-made furniture and woodwork. “I am grateful for my father’s mentorship and guidance passing on his invaluable knowledge of Old World craftsmanship that can only be learned through experience gained over a lifetime. His passion for crafting something meaningful and beautiful has influenced me greatly.”

International Craftsmanship Standards Applied Locally in Hillsborough

The 30 years of hands-on experience began with traditional German apprenticeship training at age 10, building a foundation in joinery techniques and wood selection that most cabinetmakers never encounter. That training carried through international projects where tolerances had to be perfect—marine environments amplify every flaw, and luxury hospitality clients expect flawless execution.

Since 2006, Deutsch Design has brought that level of craftsmanship to residential and commercial projects throughout the Triangle region. Hillsborough's location provides access to North Carolina hardwood suppliers and specialty wood dealers across the region, which means the shop can source specific species and grades that match each project's design intent.

The approach remains the same whether it's a $35,000 kitchen remodel or a $60,000+ luxury installation: understand what you actually need the space to do, design cabinetry that solves those functional challenges, and build it to last. Every drawer box is dovetailed. Every door is fitted individually. Every finish is applied in controlled shop conditions before installation.

What Working with Deutsch Design Actually Looks Like

You'll meet with the master craftsman who will build your project. He'll ask detailed questions about how you use your space, what frustrates you about your current setup, and what you're hoping to achieve. Then he'll design solutions—not from a catalog of standard options, but from scratch based on your specific needs and the architectural details of your home.

The shop builds one project at a time with full attention to detail. You're not competing with dozens of other jobs moving through a production line. This boutique approach means timelines are realistic and quality never gets sacrificed to hit arbitrary deadlines.
